Head of Financial Crime & Compliance
Betfair Pty Limited (the Company) is a disruptor bringing innovation and competition to the Australian sports betting industry while operating responsibly and following regulations to protect the community.
We’re looking for an experienced Head of Financial Crime and Compliance to oversee the Company’s compliance with its regulatory and AML/CTF obligations, while acting as the Company’s designated AML/CTF Compliance Officer. Reporting to the Legal and Compliance Director, you will be a trusted advisor to senior leadership, Boards and governance committees, providing oversight of the Company’s compliance and ML/TF risks and the adequacy and effectiveness of the Company’s frameworks.
Integral to your success will be your ability to build strong relationships across the business and with external regulators, and to embed robust, pragmatic compliance frameworks that support a fast-moving and highly regulated wagering environment.

What you will bring
- 5+ years’ experience in AML/CTF and compliance related roles.
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (law, business or finance).
- Training and/or qualifications in AML/CTF.
- Thorough understanding of the AML/CTF Act, AML/CTF Rules and associated regulatory reform.
- Thorough understanding of the Australian online wagering market.
- Thorough understanding of the compliance obligations which an Australian licensed online wagering operator must meet.
- Experience in preparing submissions to regulatory bodies and government departments.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including an ability to develop key relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A sound ability to use technology and software (including Microsoft 365) to undertake your work.
- Be a resident of Australia.

Some tasks include, but are not limited to:
AML/CTF
- Develop and implement the Company’s AML/CTF Program.
- Be responsible for undertaking ML/TF risk assessments
- Draft AML/CTF policies, including procedures, systems and controls to mitigate and manage the Company’s ML/TF risks and support compliance with the Company’s obligations.
- Undertake ongoing customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence and transaction monitoring.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to AUSTRAC in accordance with the AML/CTF Act.
- Implement governance and assurance activities to ensure the Company complies with its AML/CTF obligations and appropriately mitigates and manages ML/TF risks.
- Prepare detailed management and Board reporting on ML/TF risk and control effectiveness.
- Fulfil the role and functions of the Company’s AML/CTF Compliance Officer
Compliance
- Develop and implement the Company’s Compliance Framework and associated policies.
- Draft procedures and training to support compliance with Crown compliance related policies.
- Ensure compliance with licence conditions, legislative requirements and regulatory codes (including the NT Code of Practice for Responsible Service of Online Gambling).
- Educate staff on compliance obligations and the Company’s policies/procedures
- Respond to internal and external audits.
- Prepare compliance reporting for management and governance committees.
- Act as a proactive advisor to the business, participating in projects and initiatives.
Internal & External Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships across all areas of the business and Crown.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators (including Licensing NT and the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission), racing and sporting bodies, service providers, Flutter (the owner of the Betfair Betting Exchange), BetMakers and Responsible Wagering Australia.
- Prepare regulatory correspondence, responses to information requests and customer complaint responses.
Leadership Team
- Contribute to and support Leadership Team decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Drive engagement and lead by example, embedding the Company’s Fair Plays and inclusive culture.
- Contribute to the Company’s strategic vision and its execution across the business.
- Identify, develop and retain talent, supporting recruitment and performance processes.
- Lead safer gambling and compliance frameworks across betting exchange and sportsbook licences.
- Manage departmental budgets and forecasting with a strong focus on financial performance.
